EU Commission: Fight for the bees - an order for our future!
Brüssel, Belgien - On June 19, 2025, the EU Parliament treated the last agenda item to secure bee and pollinator protection. The EU Commission presented new measures as part of the so-called "Deals for pollarber". The main goal of this initiative is to reverse the decline of bees and other pollers by 2030. This is done by improving the preservation of habitats and the creation of ecological corridors, which are intended to help the pollers move and thrive.
One of the main causes for the loss of pollares is the excessive use of pesticides. In a current statement, the Lower Austrian SPÖ-EU MP, Günther Sidl, called for sustainable agriculture that does not require pesticides. He criticized the inconsistent policy of the EU Commission with regard to the reduction of pesticides and the approval of glyphosate. In addition, he appealed to the need to provide farmers in environmentally friendly and at the same time profitable labor instruments.
Initiatives to combat the decline of pollares
For the implementation of this initiative, three main priorities have been set:
- Improving the preservation of pollares and fighting the causes of their decline, including maintenance plans for endangered species.
- Restoration of habitats in agricultural landscapes and promotion of pollinating -friendly agriculture.
- increase in knowledge over the decline in pollinators through research and a surveillance system.
Member States are called to develop national strategies for pollinators and the Commission asked the European Parliament and the Council for approval of the measures. This initiative is in accordance with the global biodiversity framework of Kunming-Montreal and also takes into account the challenges of the climate crisis and invasive species.
consequences of the pesticide use for biodiversity
The use of pesticides has a significant impact on biodiversity, as can be seen from scientific studies. These show that many protected animal species are at risk in their stocks, which presents the design of effective environmental protection strategies with great challenges. According to the Environmental Office Flora-fauna habitat and water frame guideline.
The BUND for the Environment and Nature Conservation Germany (BUND) wants to draw attention to the threat of species by pesticides and shows alternatives to pesticides. The organization emphasizes the importance of a flourishing agricultural landscape for the preservation of the abundance of species and the recreational value for the population. Furthermore, a dialogue with political decision -makers is sought to critically accompany the national and European pesticide policy.
