Digital memory trip: Vöcklabruck's students preserve history!

in Vöcklabruck, pupils of the BG Vöcklabruck and 15 apprentices from Stiwa presented the impressive memory project "Memorywalk_360" on November 27. The initiative was launched by Anne Frank Verein Austria and the Mauthausen Committee Vöcklabruck and offers a virtual tour consisting of nine interactive 360-degree photographs that are reminiscent of monuments and places of memory for the victims of National Socialism in the region. The aim of the project is to keep the stories of the victims alive and to raise awareness of the culture of remembrance, such as reported.

Fabian, an apprentice at Stiwa, led those present through the virtual experience and presented the interactive photos that show historical sites in Vöcklabruck, Attnang-Puchheim, Lenzing and Zipf. During a three -day workshop, the youngsters prevailed intensively with the fates of the victims, created posters and carried out film screenings. Matthias Lasinger, history teacher and member of the Mauthausen Committee, emphasized the urgency of such projects: "I had the privilege of speaking with contemporary witnesses and survivors. This opportunity will soon no longer exist for today's youth". Rudi Loidl, also a member of the Mauthausen Committee, spoke out for further research on the documentation of the murdered forced laborers in the Second World War. The participants received a lot of praise for their commitment. Gottfried Hirz, President of the Upper Austrian Red Cross, gave the young people ceremoniously presented certificates of participation and emphasized how proud he was on these young people. Frederik Schmidsberger, chairman of the Mauthausen Committee Vöcklabruck, spoke in the final word about the importance of such initiatives that raise awareness of the dark history of our region.
