The Canoe of Manitu: Bully Herbig brings the adventure back!
On May 26, 2025, Michael “Bully” Herbig announced the highly anticipated sequel to his classic “The Shoe of Manitu”. The new film, entitled “The Canoe of Manitou”, will be released in cinemas on August 14, 2025. This was confirmed by the production company Constantin Film, which presented the first details about the production on January 19, 2024.
Michael Bully Herbig is once again directing and wrote the script together with Christian Tramitz and Rick Kavanian. The main actors have also been confirmed: In addition to Herbig as Abahachi, Christian Tramitz will star as Ranger and Rick Kavanian as Dimitri. Jasmin Schwiers as Mary as well as Jessica Schwarz, Friedrich Mücke and Sky du Mont are also part of the cast.
Plot and production
In "The Canoe of Manitu," Abahachi and Ranger fight against a new gang that is after their canoe. They are rescued by Dimitri and Mary and end up in a big adventure full of misunderstandings. Filming is scheduled for this year and RTL will be involved in a theatrical production of Bully for the first time, marking a new milestone for the company.
The original film “The Shoe of Manitu” celebrated its premiere in 2001 and became one of the most successful German cinema films with almost 12 million viewers. Herbig previously expressed some concerns about a sequel. He said in 2019 that audiences often want the same thing, but different. Nevertheless, he ultimately decided to build on the success of the first film.
The year 2025 in German cinema
The year 2025 will be an important year for German cinema. This sequel, which starts exactly twelve years after the first part, is directed by Philipp Stölzl and stars Tom Payne.
