Chaos in Munich's school: 17 children injured after irritable gas attack!
On Thursday, June 5, 2025, there was an incident at a school in Allach, Munich, which mobilized a large number of emergency services. Due to an exit gas, a total of 17 people were injured, including 8 heavily and 9 light. The emergency call received at 1:17 p.m. when a caller reported eye irritation and breathing difficulties with several students. This led to a large contingent of the fire brigade and emergency services, which quickly arrived on site and supplied the injured and looked after the pupils and teachers. The entire building parties were evacuated and measurements showed that there was no demonstrable dangerous substance in the building. The school building could finally be released after 26 uninjured people were looked after. The police started investigations to clarify the incident.
In a worrying development, irritant gas incidents seem to be gaining weight at schools in Germany. Similar incidents occurred not only in Munich, but also in the school center in Bühlertann, where a part of the building was cleared due to irritant gas. 61 students were injured here, with 17 of them being taken to a hospital for further treatment. The police in Bühlertann examine whether the irritant gas was intentionally or unintentionally exuded, while an extensive rescue operation took place, in which 36 vehicles and 88 doctors and paramedics were present. The fire brigade excluded a gas leak after corresponding measurements.
growing concern about security incidents
The incidents in Bühlertann are part of a worrying trend throughout Germany. In a younger episode in Lichtenstein, Saxony, 42 people injured irritant gas incidents, including 38 children. These incidents make it clear that security is at risk in schools. Respiratory irritation and symptoms of cough were found after a stinging smell in the cafeteria of a high school was perceived, which led to an extensive use of rescue workers and police.
A similar incident also occurred in Bietigheim-Bissingen, where a "unknown, strongly smelling liquid" was reported in the school center. The fire brigade carried out measurements and the affected area was thoroughly cleaned. While in this case 91 students were examined and reloaded, a caretaker had to be treated medically due to irritated airways.
The police continue to determine to identify the causes of these incidents that appeared in several regions in the past few weeks, including Zarrentin in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Heidelberg in Baden-Württemberg. So far, no suspects are known, and the population is asked for indications to find out the causes of these worrying events.
The frequent events illustrate that schools have to take security measures more to protect the students and prevent such incidents. The events also show the urgent need for further investigations and educational work on this topic.
The incidents shown make it clear that it is time to think about and strengthen them about security standards and responsibilities at schools
