Caritas Austria demands immediate ceasefire for Gaza: Help urgently needed!
Gaza, Palästinensische Gebiete - Caritas Austria demands an immediate stop of the Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip. In a clear statement, Vice President Alexander Bodmann criticized the escalating violence and the violation of the ceasefire. "The death of over 436 people since the latest attacks is unbearable," he said. Bodmann emphasizes the need to respect humanitarian international law in order to bring humanitarian aid freely to Gaza and to restore the interrupted power supply. The current situation was catastrophic, and it illustrated urgency, peace and justice for the civilian population after people had to flee again.
In addition to support for the civilian population in the Gaza Strip, Caritas has achieved over 1.3 million people with a variety of help from partner organizations such as CRS since October 2023. The measures include the provision of clean drinking water for around 35,000 people at 29 locations, food packages for around one million people and the support of 7,900 children through psychosocial care in emergency accommodation. "Families receive trauma therapy and emotional support while we ensure the necessary care with houses and distribution points," said Caritas. The organization thus offers Lebenshilfe in one of the most critical humanitarian crises in the region, as is documented by the measures to support Lebanon, Jordan and Syria. Over 1,640,000 meals and numerous hygiene kits were distributed there.urgent aid measures necessary
The support of Caritas in these crisis areas is indispensable. The recent attacks have further destroyed the already battered infrastructure, which makes humanitarian aid significantly more difficult. "It must finally be over with war, people need support," warns Bodmann, calling for an immediate ceasefire to enable additional aid measures. Every additional day of violence has serious effects on the suffering civilians who are urgently dependent on food, accommodation and medical care. With a total contribution of 320,000 euros, Caritas Austria underlines its commitment to relieve the humanitarian crisis and to help for the affected people in the Gaza Strip.
