Rescue service in Burgenland: record numbers for missions and donations of blood!

Oberwart, Österreich - In 2024, the Red Cross Burgenland recorded an alarming increase in its missions. Overall, the rescue service was called in almost 100,000 cases, which corresponds to a sudden increase in 8.4 percent compared to the previous year. This led to a remarkable trend in which every third Burgenland was statistically transported to a health facility, as managing director Thomas Wallner announced. The crisis intervention of the Red Cross also reported with 217 missions and 918 people supervised the highest level of all time, which represents an increase of 26 percent compared to 2023, as burgenland.orf.at reported.

An essential factor for this increase are the consequences of the flood in southern Burgenland, which killed the number of emergency calls. Rotkreuz President Friederike Pirringer emphasized that the 3,577 volunteers made unpaid hours over 102,720 last year, which brought the community savings of around three million euros. In addition, according to Pirringer, the Burgen countries are the most hard -working blood donors in Austria, with over 17,000 blood cannon trees made available in 2024. A new initiative should offer fixed times for blood donations in the district office of Oberwart from May in order to further promote the willingness to donate, such as bvz.at additionally informed.

house nursing and other services

The mobile home nursing of the Red Cross carried out 69,385 visits last year, which corresponds to an increase of almost eight percent. 253 seriously ill and dying people received support in the hospice service. Despite the challenges of other social institutions that influence food supply like the Austria Team Tafel, the Red Cross remains optimistic and is looking for new ways to support the community. The increase in operations and the need for other services illustrate the growing role of the Red Cross in Burgenland and the continuing willingness of the population to get involved in emergencies.
