New cross-border cycle path promotes eco-tourism in Seewinkel

Recently, the kick-off event on the Interreg project "AT-HU ProCrosseCosys" took place in Andau, which gave the starting signal for a new cross-border bike path. This project funded by the EU has a total volume of around 1.4 million euros and aims to promote ecotourism in the region.

In cooperation with the Tourismus Association of North Burgenland and the national parks in the region, both in Austria and in Hungary, a new cycling route was designed. This comprises about 130 kilometers and leads through the breathtaking landscapes of the Neusiedler See-Seewinkel National Park. The bike path will offer numerous viewing platforms that enable cyclists impressive views of nature.

natural cycling through untouched landscapes

The new cycle path particularly appeals to nature lovers who like to travel on unpaved paths. Along the route, cyclists can watch schools of gray cattle as well as grazing white donkeys. The variety of bird species in the region also contributes to the unforgettable cycling experience. For a complete experience, it is recommended to divid the tour over several days in order to be able to enjoy the beauties of the area to the fullest.

In the coming years, an expansion of the bike path via the Gusztáv Berg-Brücke to the Hungarian National Park Fertó-Hansag will be planned. While existing bike paths are already being used on the Austrian side, the creation of new, rather untouched natural routes is being worked on in Hungary.

The CrosseCosys project not only includes bike -technical developments, but also investments in comprehensive signage, information signs and the creation of a bike card. In addition, a large opening event and cycling stations are planned in order to monitor the use of the cycle path and to be able to adapt if necessary.

The implementation of the project is therefore not only of great interest in the region, but could also help strengthen cross -border tourism in the long term. This initiative of cooperation between Austria and Hungary has been celebrating 30 years and shows how important partnerships are for the development of cross -border space.
