Visitor numbers in football: A look at the current spectator highlights
The current football round has shown a disappointing balance for many teams. With an average of just 6,417 spectators, the league recorded the lowest visitor: interior average of the season. The main reason for this decline could be the large number of games in stadiums with a capacity of less than 10,000 spectators, paired with many foreign matchups of the large spectator magnets.
The highlight of the round was due to the number of viewers of the 2-0 win of the SK Rapid against Austria Klagenfurt, which took place in front of 15,700 fans. Without this game, the average would have drastically had to be reduced to 4,561 spectators: inside. Other games were only able to have moderate numbers. For example, the Styrian duel between TSV Hartberg and SK Sturm Graz experienced a full success in front of 5.024 fans, while the match between FC Blau-Weiß Linz and Red Bull Salzburg only attracted 5,000 spectators: inside. Both encounters ended with victories of the home teams.
women's teams and regional league statistics
In the women's Bundesliga, the Vienna derby between Austria Vienna and Vienna was also an exciting meeting. Here the Döblingen women won 1-0, but in front of only 612 spectators present: inside. This defeat sets the Austria women with a gap of five points behind the leaders SKN St. Pölten Rush. The latter won 4-0 in their own duel against UPS Neulengbach and welcomed 300 visitors: Inside in the NV Arena in St. Pölten-Ratzersdorf.
The picture was similar in the regional league. The SC Imst remains the league leader, even if they could only achieve one point in 1-1 against VfB Hohenems. There were 612 spectators on site: inside. However, there are positive things for the pursuer Austria Salzburg, who won 2-1 against SC Schwaz and thus shortened the distance to the league leader to just two points. In addition, two games under 500 spectators took place in the regional league: inside.
European competitions and away matches
At the international level, the Linz ASK was the only Austrian team that took up a home game of European competitions this week. However, no goal could be scored against Cercle Bruges, so the match ended 0-0, even if 8,500 spectators: were present inside. On the other hand, the focus is on the results of the away games: Red Bull Salzburg decided a Champions League game against Feyenoord 3-1, while Sturm Graz was lost 0-1 in Dortmund. The combination of international successes and disappointing home appearances leads to an exciting discussion about the number of spectators and the audience interest in domestic football.
The current situation will continue to be observed closely. It remains to be seen whether and how the number of spectators will change in the upcoming rounds. Further developments and analyzes on this topic can be found in a report on www.90minuten.at .
