Energy independence in Mattersburg: New initiative for piggy bank and the environment
in the Mattersburg district will face information events on the energy community "Fanclub Burgenland Energy Satisfaction" in the coming weeks. This initiative, which was launched by Governor Hans Peter Doskozil, guarantees a fixed price of 10 cents net per kilowatt hour for the next 20 years without an adjustment based on economic factors.
Currently there are a total of 28,504 count points in the Mattersburg district, which together consume over 172 million kilowatt hours of energy. According to Thomas Hoffmann, the district party chairman of the SPÖ, the households could save an average of around 400 euros per year per point. This could make this measure a noticeable relief for many households.
reaction of the SPÖ
Hoffmann emphasizes the importance of this initiative and says that it comes “exactly at the right time”. His criticism is directed primarily against the federal government, which again ignores people's needs when the electricity price brake expires. The current situation in which many citizens suffer from increasing electricity costs makes such a measure all the more urgent. Hoffmann also speaks against the inability of the ÖVP to perceive the responsibilities in energy policy.
The information events are intended to serve the citizens of providing comprehensive information about the advantages and functioning of the energy community. Not only the economic aspects are illuminated, but also the low -threshold possibility of actively participating in the energy transition. This initiative is considered the first nationwide energy community in Europe and could therefore also be a model for other regions.
The specific dates and locations of the information events will be announced shortly. Interested citizens are invited to actively participate and use the opportunities that this initiative offers.
