F ACHTH Road S7: Earthwork completed - opening for 2025 planned
Large earth movements and comprehensive construction work currently shape the east of the S7 expressway. In the past few months, around 1.7 million cubic meters of earth have been set in motion in this area to advance the project. The responsible project manager of ASFINAG, Martina Haselbacher, was optimistic about progress. The main work is essentially complete and the Unterflurstrasse in Königsdorf is to be completed in December this year.
impressive earth masses were removed and redesigned to make room for the new road. Especially in the hilly area between Dobersdorf and Königsdorf-Berg, the machines were particularly active, where cuts up to ten meters deep were made into the site. These edited areas now offer space for the lanes, between high steep walls that shape the landscape.
sustainable noise protection measures
The poured noise barriers, which were created along the course of the road, ensure a noise reduction. Around 1.12 million cubic meters of ground were processed. Where walls are not possible, special steel noise barriers are used, which are greened in order to better get into the area. This includes thousands of plants that have already been ordered.
A significant part of the project is almost complete. The three large valley bridges that extend over Dobersdorfer and Königsdorf Hotter are also almost completed. Only the final road markings are missing above them, and the infrastructural components in the "mini tunnel" at the "Spritkönig" gas station are currently being installed.
The almost entire 13.5 km long section of the S7 between Riegersdorf and Heiligenkreuz is already paved. Two parking spaces, Mogersdorf and Heiligenkreuz, enable the opposite and direct descents to the expressway, also take shape. Each parking lot offers 34 parking spaces for cars, additional 16 for trucks and five for motorcycles, as well as important facilities such as toilet facilities and garbage sites.
good planning for the environment and traffic
The construction work in the flat section of the Lafnitztalboden brings additional challenges. Here 35 overpasses are set up to cross traffic routes, waters and cycle paths. In addition, eleven special systems ensure that rainwater is filtered and cleaned before it gets into Lafnitz. In order to enable wild animals to cross the traffic routes, two game overpasses with lengths of 80 and 40 meters are built.
The release of the new eastern part of the S7 is scheduled for September 2025. Together with the western part of the expressway that is already in operation, the S7 will then be passable, which also includes the connection to the Hungarian M 80 motorway at Heiligenkreuz. The transport infrastructure will be of great importance for the region because it offers direct access to important main roads. From Riegersdorf to the Tunnel Rudersdorf, the S7 will have two lanes in each direction, while there will only be a lane to the border, since there is a lower traffic.
The Unterflurstrasse in Königsdorf has an impressive length of 696 meters and consists of 59 blocks with a deep foundation. A total of 396 bored piles were beaten and around 30,000 cubic meters of concrete were used. This underground passage not only ensures better traffic management, but also protects the landscape.
The progress in the construction of the S7 shows that comprehensive plans are not only necessary, but also with a clear focus on environmental protection and traffic safety. The article
