Electronic files replace paper in Burgenland state administration: focus on efficiency and digitalization
It has been official since the last state parliament session on Monday - the Burgenland state government has introduced the electronic file. This innovative measure aims to increase efficiency and reduce bureaucracy. State Governor Hans Peter Doskozil describes this step as a significant modernization push in the state administration. The previous paper-based government meetings are now a thing of the past, as digitalization has now found its way into the offices of the Burgenland state government and its departments.
Over the last two years, the Burgenland state government has gradually moved away from paper documents. This lays an important foundation for further digitalization and the creation of efficient administration in Burgenland, says Doskozil. In 2023 alone, 2,420 physical meeting files were presented to government members for approval - a sign of the extent of the bureaucratic effort.
The switch to electronic filing not only offers more sustainability, but also brings with it other advantages. Decisions can now be made regardless of location and processing steps can be carried out by several people at the same time. This accelerates internal processes and enables faster decision-making, which ultimately leads to improved service for citizens.
In addition, over 2,000 state government employees are already working with the electronic file, which corresponds to more than a third of all employees.
The federal government plays an important role as a stakeholder in this digital transformation process. The initiative to improve basic digital skills among the population and IT skills for the economy aims to advance digital development in Austria. With the introduction of electronic files, Burgenland is setting an example for an increasingly digitalized society and efficient administration. Interesting developments are on the horizon as Austria engages in a national digital effort to improve digital skills.
The future of administration in Burgenland is digital and more efficient than ever before, leading to faster decisions and more fluid internal processes. The introduction of electronic files is seen as an important step towards modern and contemporary administration.
