New guidelines for municipalities: effectively implement traffic calming
In the past few weeks, a new guide has been developed to help the communities to achieve their road safety goals more effectively. On October 15, 2024, an information event took place in Eisenstadt and on November 18, 2024 in Güssing, at which this guide was presented. The aim of this event was to inform the mayor and municipal representative about the content and applications of the guide.
An important concern of this guide is to support the municipalities in choosing the best measures. Sabine Kaulich from the Board of Trustees for Road Safety (KFV) emphasized: "With the guidelines, we would like to help municipalities to weigh down different measures and to assess the costs. Thanks to checklists, communities can easily find out whether conceptual ideas such as meeting areas or residential streets are suitable for their specific location." This facilitates the decision -making process and enables targeted implementation of measures to calm traffic.
role of the municipalities in traffic calming measures
Responsibility for the implementation of traffic calming measures is mainly among the municipalities, especially if it is municipal roads. The district administrative authority, on the other hand, is responsible for state roads in the local area. This means that many measures can be realized directly in the area of influence of the municipalities.
The provision of this guide is an important step to increase traffic safety in the various communities and to meet the individual needs of the locations. For further information and to download the complete guide, interested parties can access the website KOMMUNAL.AT
