Luxury smuggling in Austria: Georgians flown with thief vehicles!

A Georgian was condemned in the Eisenstadt regional court for the illegal shift of stolen luxury vehicles. This man, a 43-year-old family man, acted as a courier for unknown backers and transported high-priced cars such as Aston Martins, Ferraris and Mercedes G63 AMG through Europe for months, especially across Austria's streets. His approach included collecting the stolen vehicles, which often had perfectly manipulated chassis numbers in the slipstream of its clients. This often happened in parking spaces or in backyards, where he accepted the cars, as the Krone reported.

The main routes for the smuggling were the border crossings Nickelsdorf and Kittsee as well as Drasenhofen in Lower Austria. The Georgian earned several thousand euros per trip. During the procedure, his Viennese lawyer Magister Constantin Adrian Nicu argued that the accused was initially unsuspecting, which led to an extremely mild punishment of 30 months in prison. He has already served from this time for eight months and was ultimately able to leave Spain again. The judge was convinced of the defense strategy, as scholar.archive.org

The main part of the vehicles smuggled in this way, including a Mercedes G63 AMG worth several hundred thousand euros, is a terrifying example of organized crime in the field of car theft. These acts throw a bright light on the security gaps in the monitoring of vehicle transport in Europe and show how important it is to strengthen the procedures for preventing such crimes.
