Community Nurses: A successful model for health care in the country!

The future of community nursing sisters, also known as the community Nurses, has been an important topic in healthcare since 2022. These specialists support people in staying healthy and taking preventive measures. In Vorarlberg, the health consultants recorded impressive 13,736 contacts with the population between 2022 and 2024. This corresponds to 2.5 percent of all nationwide contacts. In Burgenland there were almost 3,700 more, despite a smaller number of projects in the previous year. The contacts include numerous personal discussions and telephone consultations. Minister of Health Johannes Rauch emphasizes, however, that the numbers are difficult to compare because the projects are different in every federal state.

The training of Community Health Nurses

Another important aspect is the development of the community health in Germany, which has been promoted since 2017 by working with the Agnes Karll Gesellschaft and the German Professional Association for Nursing Professions, as bosch-stiftung.de This initiative is intended to sustainably improve primary health care in the communities. In view of the challenges of the German health system, including demographic change and a lack of nursing staff, the role of Community Nurses is becoming increasingly important.

By developing curricula for master's programs in Witten-Herdecke, Munich and Dresden, nurses are given the opportunity to continue their education and act as a competent contact person in the health sector. This is crucial to meet the increasing demands in health care and to support people in all situations.
