Burgenland departure: Red-green starts with a strong government program!
The political landscape in Burgenland is changing: SPÖ and the Greens have agreed on a government coalition. After only one week of intensive negotiations, Governor Hans Peter Doskozil (SPÖ), together with the new deputy Anja Haider-Wallner (Greens), presented the work program of the future state government. According to APA-OTS ensure important initiatives, including a photovoltaic law and a new one Animal protection house. The aim is to promote environmental protection, social justice and a stable cohesion in the population.
government in resistance
The quick agreement between the SPÖ and the Greens is not welcomed from all sides. Both the ÖVP and the FPÖ announced not to vote for the new state government at the constituent session. In a written statement, the ÖVP justified this with the fear that Doskozil would continue to pursue its course in business and finance, which would not correspond to its expectations. The FPÖ made it clear that it was not behind the red-green coalition. The resistance of the opposition parties makes it clear that the political discourse in Burgenland remains heated, as reports the press.
Despite the critical voices, the SPÖ and the Greens are optimistic. Haider-Wallner emphasized that the coalition aims to implement "an abundance of improvements" for people in Burgenland-ecological, socially and sustainable. The new state government will be officially praised in the next few days, while the opposition is preparing for its role as constructive critics. The new state parliament is constituted on Thursday, which could further heat up the political tensions in Burgenland.
