Fire disaster in Nussdorf-Debant: Location relaxes, schools open again!
On Monday, June 30, 2025, a major fire occurred in the Nußdorf-Debant old-fiber orgore center. The extinguishing work is now ongoing the third day, while the fire situation was brought under control after intensive control measures. Around 40 firefighters are actively involved, supported by over 100 members from ten different fire brigades in the district. In total, around 290 emergency services with 46 vehicles are currently being used. The situation remains tense, since rotating wind and smoke development make work difficult.
The local population was informed as part of the AT-Alet on Monday afternoon that the danger situation in the Lienz Talboden and the lower Puster Valley was downgraded from a "population warning" to an "official danger information". Despite this positive turn, it is still advisable to keep windows and doors closed and avoid the outdoor stay. This information has only been sent to mobile phones that have activated the necessary settings. The instructions remain valid and are continuously evaluated.

In the case of the extinguishing work, which were continued at night, the fire brigade also had to use excavator systems in order to reject heated fire materials in waste boxes. There were several injuries among the firefighters during the missions: nine emergency services were medically supervised, mainly due to the extreme heat conditions. The results of the first air measurements have shown that no limit value overruns were found in air quality. Investigators of the analytical Taskforce Munich have carried out extensive measurements that showed positive results on drinking water supply in the affected communities. This is classified as harmless because it is supplied with sources and groundwater wells that are not affected by the fire.

With regard to the effects of the fire, the regular school and kindergarten company in several affected communities-including Nussdorf-Debant, Lienz, Iselsberg-Stronach, Lavant, Tristach, Dölsach, Nikolsdorf, Leisach, Assling, Amlach and Oberlienz-was exposed to Monday. This also affects the Lienz Talboden State Music School. The certificate of documents for students was postponed to Thursday, July 3. Schools and kindergartens have been informed about the temporary measures, and the parents were released to decide on the care of their children.
