New traffic light system and road: modernization between Ernsthofen and Loderleiten!

Ernsthofen, Österreich - On July 4, 2025, the renovation of the traffic light system and the renewal of the road on the L 6248 state road between Ernsthofen and Loderleiten was officially completed. The work was ceremoniously recognized by MP Alexander Schnabel, Mayor Karl Huber and Di Franz Stiedl. The bottleneck extends between kilometers of 10.810 and kilometer 11.480 and was no longer up to date with regard to traffic safety.

The traffic light system, originally from 1991, showed significant defects, including flaking, cracks and settings. As a result, the old technology no longer met the modern traffic requirements. In the course of the construction work, the traffic lights were brought up to date with new control cabinets, controls and cabling. It was also planned to exchange induction loops in the road and install additional counting loops for the vehicle count.

construction work and costs

The renovation work was carried out by GESIG GmbH from Vienna and comprised a construction period of only two weeks, starting in early June. In addition, the road was milled between kilometers of 10.730 and kilometer 11,020. The recovered cover layer consisted of a six -centimeter -strong asphalt circulation. The Leyrer & Graf from Gmünd was responsible for this road construction work, which started their work on June 10th and have now successfully completed.

The total construction costs amounted to around 105,000 euros, which were fully borne by the state of Lower Austria. These investments are part of a larger trend in road construction that has been observed in Austria and Germany in recent years.

context for road construction

in German road construction, which generated sales of over 13 billion euros in 2023, similar challenges are to be overcome. The sector is the most important in civil engineering, but it has to struggle with a decline of almost two billion euros. Despite these declines, road construction remains essential, since it also includes pedestrian and cycling trails as well as parking spaces. Investments in the expansion of the federal highways, which amounted to around 8.5 billion euros in 2023, are expected to increase to almost 9.8 billion euros by 2028.

This situation shows that the infrastructure in Germany and Austria must be continuously improved in order to meet the growing requirements of road users. Straßenbauer is also the most popular apprenticeship in civil engineering, with around 2,700 trainees in Germany in 2023. In view of these figures, training in road construction remains an important part of ensuring a modern and safe transport network.
