Albmar triples triple risk of premature death - new study shocked!
New findings on the effects of nightmares on health were presented at the European Academy of Neurology (EAN) Congress 2025. A comprehensive study under the direction of Dr. Abidemi Otaiku from the UK Dementia Research Institute and Imperial College London shows a significant connection between frequent nightmares, accelerated biological aging and an increased risk of early death. This research is particularly remarkable because it identifies nightmares as an independent risk factor regardless of other health problems.
The analysis included data from 2,429 children between the ages of 8 and 10 and 183,012 adults between the ages of 26 and 86 in six long -term population coils. Adults reported on the frequency of their nightmares at the beginning of the study, while the children's parents made this information available. The results reveal that adults who had nightmares every week had more than three times as high risks to die before the age of 70.
nightmares and their health consequences
The study illustrates that frequent nightmares are not only a problem in adults. Both children and adults correlate nightmares with faster biological aging, which is responsible for around 40 % of the increased death disease. Dr. Otaiku explains that nightmares activate the combat or escape reaction and lead to an increase in cortisol levels, which results in chronic stress and disturbed sleep.
The realization is considered particularly worrying that even monthly nightmares are associated with faster aging and higher mortality. These stressful dreams, which are also defined as those from which one do not awaken, are also associated with psychological problems, increased risk of suicide, cognitive degradation and the risk of Parkinson's disease and dementia. According to an analysis of the [Univadis] (https://www.univadis.de/viewarticle/h%C3%A4ufige-albtr%C3%A4UME-SEINE-SCHNELERM-ALTERM-OF-NUMPLE-OF-ALLONTS8P3? 4 to 10 % of people stressful dreams per week, while 20 to 30 % experience such dreams at least once a month.
sleep disorders and their solutions
sleep disorders are a widespread phenomenon from which every third person occasionally suffers. According to the Techniker Krankenkasse, sleep disorders are only classified as such, and women are affected more frequently than men. The typical signs include long sleeping times, restless sleep, frequent waking up and tiredness despite sufficient sleep.
The improvement of sleep quality often requires targeted measures. Experts recommend a suitable sleeping environment, regular sleep times and evening rituals such as relaxing music or a warm bath. Herbal sedatives and regular physical activity can also be helpful. However, those affected should see a doctor in constant sleep problems.
The new research results underline the importance of taking nightmares and other sleep disorders seriously, since they not only affect the quality of life, but can also have serious health consequences. Experts recommend looking for help in good time and promoting healthy sleeping habits.
