Aggressive pit bull bites family in Vienna: chaos and injuries!

A dramatic incident occurred on Wednesday in an apartment in the 23rd district of Vienna when a four-year-old pit bull started attacking several people during a verbal argument between two brothers. Those affected were the dog owner's sons, who are over 20 years old, and the 52-year-old owner, who was not at home at the time of the attack but was also bitten by her own dog upon her return. The incident led to a large-scale operation by the Police Working Dog Unit (PDHE), who had to use special equipment such as protective shields and bite gloves to secure the dog.

The aggressive pit bull's bites resulted in bite wounds in the people attacked, who then had to be taken to the hospital but escaped without serious injuries. During the operation, the dog showed extremely aggressive behavior, but became apathetic after being secured by the police officers and later died in the animal quarters. The exact cause of the dog's death is currently being investigated by the veterinary office as it remains unclear.

Legal consequences

Investigations are now underway against the owner for negligent bodily harm and violations of animal ownership regulations. What is particularly worrying is the fact that the 52-year-old woman does not have a dog license for her pit bull. However, such evidence is necessary, especially for dog breeds that are classified as dangerous. Police were alerted after the dog attacked his two owner sons, underlining the seriousness of the situation.

Animal law provides for strict liability regulations for dog owners. In a similar case mentioned by RA Kotz, a court found that the plaintiff was liable for keeping her own dog off-leash while on assignment in a field, which was a clear indictment of negligence. There could also be legal consequences for the owner of the pit bull in Vienna.

According to reports from Ö24 and Krone, the situation is also being closely monitored by the public. The case could have an impact on future regulations for the keeping of listed dogs in the region and reopen the discussion about the responsibility of animal owners.
