Serious paragliding accident in Tyrol: 21-year-old seriously injured!

On June 10, 2025, a serious paragliding accident occurred in Biberwier, in the Reutte district in Tyrol. A 21-year-old German paraglider from North Rhine-Westphalia started his flight in the Sonnenspitze area. Shortly after 6 p.m., the pilot suddenly lost altitude and was no longer able to gain sufficient altitude.

As a result, the paraglider got caught in a tree in the adjacent forest. The fall from a height of around five meters resulted in serious injuries to the left leg. Despite the precarious situation, the pilot was able to make an emergency call independently. He was immediately flown to the hospital in an emergency ambulance to be treated, as 5min.at reports.

More paragliding accidents in Tyrol

The incident is not isolated, as there have been several paragliding accidents in Tyrol in the last few days. A total of four people were injured and taken to hospital. Details about these incidents and the exact causes of the accident are not yet known, as tirol.orf.at informs. This cluster of accidents raises questions about safety and conditions for paragliders in the region.

Paragliding in the Paznaun region

The Paznaun region, where the See adventure resort is also located, offers numerous opportunities for paragliders. There are well-equipped take-off and landing areas here, which are only about a 10-minute walk from the cable car station in the valley and on the mountain. Paragliding can be practiced in the region from March to October in the form of thermal and cross-country flying, while gliding and tandem flights are possible all year round, as listed on see.at. The infrastructure and the experience of the pilots play a crucial role in minimizing the risk of accidents.

The region is ideal for beginners and advanced skiers, taking into account the wind directions - west, north and east - as well as current wind data from Holfuy Station. A popular activity tip is the combination of hiking and paragliding, known as Hike & Fly, which combines the fascination of aerial sports with the beauty of Tyrolean nature.

However, recent incidents highlight the need to review paragliding safety precautions and ensure that all pilots have the necessary experience and knowledge to minimize the risks of flying.
