Flood chaos: cities sink, heroes fight for lives!

Current reports show that dramatic situations are taking place both in sport and in nature. ÖFB team player Barbara Dunst suffered a severe cruciate ligament tear in the play-off second leg against Poland and has already had to undergo surgery. The loss of this key player is a big headache, as the Austrian team also missed EURO 2025 due to the 0-1 defeat today.at reported.

Flood disaster in Europe

At the same time, the whole of Central Europe seems to be hit by an unprecedented flood disaster. The situation in Poland, Austria and the Czech Republic is catastrophic. In Poland, a disaster has been declared for affected regions, while entire cities, such as the small town of Klodzko in Lower Silesia, are under water. Evacuations and aid worth 1 billion zloty (approx. 240 million euros) for flood victims have been announced by the Polish government. In Austria the situation is just as critical. On Sunday, the entire Lower Austria was declared a disaster area, where twelve dikes burst and a firefighter died while pumping out the cellar. Unfortunately, deaths have also increased here, with at least 17 more victims in the affected regions. Reports of closed roads and evacuated districts are commonplace ZDF reported.

The situation remains tense: heavy rainfall and the threat of further flooding are making numerous areas uninhabitable. In the Czech Republic, over 12,000 people were forced to leave their homes and more than three deaths were reported here. There is also a clear warning for the regions in Germany where water levels continue to rise, especially on the Elbe. The coming days could be crucial for many residents living in the shadow of this natural disaster. The immediate impact shows no signs of improvement and citizens of the affected regions remain very concerned.
