Heavenly spectacle: dozens of shooting stars in Schleswig-Holstein!
Neumünster, Deutschland - A breathtaking sky spectacle awaits us this coming weekend: The Geminid star strings can be observed in full splendor in Schleswig-Holstein. The highlight of this impressive meteor show is reached in the night from December 13th to December 14th. At around 2 a.m., up to 60 meteors per hour will appear in the sky under optimal conditions, although the bright light of the almost full moon could outshine weaker stars. This means that, as originally hoped, more than 150 meters per hour will not be visible, but only a shooting star can be seen every one to two minutes, such as reported.
For all enthusiasts of the starry sky, the third Advent weekend offers optimal incentive for observation. From the break in darkness, the shooting stars open in the twins constellation (Gemini), where the main stars are displayed. Marco Ludwig from the Neumünster observatory advises to take a dark place with a clear view of all directions. "The sight of the twin stars alone is remarkable," said Ludwig. This beautiful staging in the night sky is caused by a cosmic cloud of dust, which was probably left by the small planeted phaethon, such as lomazoma.com noted.
shooting stars for everyone!
The observation time for the Geminids extends until December 17th, whereby the best visual conditions prevail from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Interested parties should prepare in detail to enjoy the impressive spectacle of nature in full beauty. Maritime users who are on the coasts of Schleswig-Holstein are particularly favored to experience this cosmic event. The Geminids are one of the brightest meteor shows of the year and thus embody a highlight of impressive astronomy during the Advent season.
