Drama in the fog: Hunters fall 80 meters on a quad!
Shocking scenes in the mountains of Lungötz: Two hunters experienced a dramatic accident today when their quad bike fell down a slope. The men were traveling from an uncleared forest road towards Reiterhohe (Gerzkopf) when the vehicle fell 200 meters after deviating from the route. Fortunately, the hunters were able to jump off, but the jump ended just as dangerously for them: they each fell 80 meters. According to Werner Quehenberger, the experienced operations manager of the Annaberg mountain rescue service, the hunters were “extremely lucky in misfortune” – one hunter remained completely uninjured, while the second escaped with a leg injury, reported salzburg.ORF.at.
The mountain rescue team faced particular challenges during the rescue because there was no cell phone reception in the area where the accident occurred. While the helpers climbed up to the injured hunter and provided first aid, the Martin 1 rescue helicopter was called in to quickly take the injured man to the hospital. The uninjured hunter was led into the valley under the watchful eyes of the mountain rescuers. Such shocking incidents remind us how unpredictable nature can be and how important safety and caution are in the terrain, as well today.at reported.
