Strengthen self-esteem: Workshops against the pressure from social media!
In a world in which young people are constantly being bombarded by ideals of beauty, a new workshop in Austria aims to strengthen girls' self-esteem. Loud ORF OÖ Trainer Susanne Landmann shows that many girls often only have a limited vocabulary for characteristics that go beyond external characteristics. The workshop is intended to help you develop a positive feeling for your own body and recognize your inner values. The deputy state governor Christine Haberlander reported on her own painful experiences with beauty comments and underlined the importance of such projects.
Awareness about social media
At the same time, the #ME initiative offers workshops that critically examine the influence of social media on young people's body image. These workshops, which are aimed at participants aged 13 and over, last three hours and are gender-homogeneous. Under the guidance of a trainer, participants can question their own concepts of beauty and learn how media influences their self-perception. How digital youth education describes, the young people reflect on what “beautiful”, “normal” and “healthy” means to them. Exercises such as drawing a self-portrait help to compare the image of oneself and the image of others.
The workshops are not just a discussion about appearances, but also an invitation to young people to deal with topics such as eating habits and using social media. Participants report positive experiences during the workshops and emphasize the importance of being able to talk about such topics in a supportive environment. This initiative plays an essential role in educating and empowering youth at a time when they are particularly vulnerable.
