Biathlon World Championships in Lenzerheide: Athletes' absences due to illness!
The 2025 Biathlon World Championships in Lenzerheide must take place without Tyrolean Anna Gandler. She had to end the World Cup early due to a health problem as her condition worsened during the competition. The 24-year-old therefore has no choice but to travel home. Lea Rothschopf will be called into the team to replace Gandler. In addition, Felix Leitner cannot take part in the competition because he is not fit enough after suffering from the flu. Magnus Oberhauser will be nominated for him, the media reports laola1.at.
First Biathlon World Cup in Switzerland
This week the first Biathlon World Cup competitions in Switzerland will be held in Lenzerheide. There are six competitions on the program from December 14th to 17th, 2023. In addition to the Youth and Junior World Championships and the European Biathlon Championships, this is the last major event before the Christmas break and is considered a dress rehearsal for the 2025 World Cup. Athletes from 28 nations will compete in the picturesque Roland Arena, with a total of 229 biathletes registered xc-ski.de reported.
The conditions for the competitions are challenging: temperatures below freezing and changeable weather with snowfall are forecast. In addition, the organizational team has established an environmentally friendly transport concept that allows spectators to travel to the biathlon arena free of charge using public transport. It remains to be seen whether the injured athletes on the various teams can regain their form.
