SPAR is recalling three vegan products due to the risk of salmonella!
SPAR has initiated a precautionary recall of three products that may be contaminated with salmonella. The product recall affects the following items: “SPAR Veggie vegan hummus XXL natural 300g” with the best before dates (best before) April 18, 2025, April 29, 2025, May 13, 2025; “SPAR enjoy hummus wrap with peppers 180g” with best before date April 14th, 2025 and April 15th, 2025; and “SPAR enjoy Veggie Bowl with Falafel & Yoghurt Dressing 250g” with a best before date of April 14, 2025. The affected goods have already been removed from store shelves in order to minimize the risk to consumers, such as Cosmo reported.
The recall was initiated based on findings from the supplier's routine quality controls during which the contamination was discovered. SPAR has urged all customers not to consume these products and instead return them to the SPAR, EUROSPAR and INTERSPAR stores or Maximarkt. The purchase price will of course be refunded even without a receipt. For further information, customer service is available at office@spar.at or the free telephone number 0800 / 22 11 20, such as Small newspaper added.
Important information for consumers
The recall only affects the specific products with the stated best-before dates. It has been clarified that other items from the SPAR Veggie and SPAR enjoy brands are not affected by this recall. Consumers need not worry if they have purchased other products from these brands. Such a precautionary recall is not uncommon and shows that companies are increasingly taking a responsible approach to food safety.
Overall, there is a trend toward increasing recall numbers, which does not necessarily mean that food is unsafe. According to the portal grocerieswarning.de There were a total of 310 reports in 2024, and 71 recalls as of the end of March 2025. The majority of these recall reports concern food, with allergens often being the main reason for recalls.
The growing number of recalls reflects an improved protection system aimed at ensuring the safety of food for consumers. Technical advances also make it possible to detect even the slightest contamination, while stricter recall limits offer greater safety for consumers.
