There is currently an alarming rat problem in Vienna-Brigittenau that is causing great concern for residents. Small rodents have nested along the popular stairway and are benefiting from an abundance of food sources left behind by careless walkers. District head Christine Dubravac-Widholm described the situation as serious and is calling on the responsible authorities to increase controls and possible penalties in order to effectively address the problem. In order to counteract the rat problem, “close controls” have already been carried out. Frequent inspections are organized to educate residents about the problem and to remove old food from the bushes on the Danube dam. Additionally, child and pet safe bait boxes were installed to reduce the population of uninvited guests.
