Wittenberg/MZ. – With the weekend approaching and pleasant autumnal weather, there is an ideal opportunity for exciting excursions in and around Wittenberg. The region has numerous events to offer that promise both entertainment and cultural experiences. Here are some highlights that visitors shouldn't miss.
On Sunday, October 6th, the cultural and local association “Christiane Eberhardine” will open the gates to its traditional harvest festival on the church square in Pretzsch. The festival begins with a church service at 10 a.m., followed by tapping of draft beer at 11 a.m. Especially for families, there will be a snippet hunt for children from 3 p.m., as well as a variety of stands from local dealers and a hunters' display car. Catering is guaranteed so that guests can enjoy the afternoon in a relaxed atmosphere.
Symphony concert in Wittenberg
Anyone who prefers classical music has the opportunity to experience a symphony concert in the Christ Church Wittenberg-West on Sunday from 4 p.m. Works such as Mozart's Jupiter Symphony and Haydn's Cello Concerto in D are performed here. The Fläming Festival Orchestra under the direction of Michael Weigert will ensure an unforgettable musical atmosphere, with Goncalo Silva on the solo cello taking on the solo passages on this beautiful Sunday.
At the same time, art lovers can attend the special tour and reading in the Wittenberg Armory. From 2 p.m., curator Monika Kaiser will present the exhibition “A Life for Art – The Expressive-Symbolist Worlds of Thea Schleusner”. The essay “Dancing Female Personalities of the Present”, published in 1929, will be presented. In addition to her paintings, Thea Schleusner also published numerous art essays during the Weimar Republic. This exciting reading is complemented by a guided tour of the impressive exhibition, which is included in the admission price.
Entertainment and culture in Dessau and Torgau
In Dessau, a real classic will be performed in the Anhaltisches Theater on Saturday, October 5th. The comedy “What You Want” by William Shakespeare will have its premiere this season at 5 p.m. The play is about twins who are separated after a shipwreck. On Sunday there will be another performance of the dance performance “Blue Eyes, Black Hair” at 6 p.m. For fans of the operetta, “The Bird Dealer” runs on Sunday from 5 p.m. in the Great House of the theater.
Another highlight of the weekend is the town festival in Torgau under the title “Torgau shines”. On Saturday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., visitors can explore six historic locations that are specially decorated. An interesting discovery tour begins with Irish music in the Apothecary Garden, which leads through various art and craft stalls. The diverse activities and events make the city festival a special experience.
For bargain hunters, an antique and junk market awaits you on October 5th and 6th in Ferropolis, the city of iron. There, numerous dealers present their goods under the impressive open-cast mining excavators. Admission is free and offers a unique shopping experience in a special environment.
Finally, trampoline fans shouldn't miss the German championships in the Anhalt Arena in Dessau. The best trampoline gymnasts in the Republic will compete on Friday and Saturday. On Friday the youth competitions start at 11 a.m., followed by the duo competitions on Saturday from 10 a.m. Admission to the synchronized finals is chargeable, while watching on the other days is free.
