Advent is really celebrated in Kallham, a community in the Upper Austrian district of Grieskirchen! Even before the first Sunday of Advent, preparations in the district old people's and nursing home (BAPH) were in full swing. The residents made pretty Advent wreaths together, which were then blessed by Pastor Richard at a festive mass. The event was complemented with great commitment by students from Kallham elementary school, who organized the mass together with their religion teacher. Festive activities and a sense of community
On December 2nd, the “Streichfest” ensemble delighted the home residents with an afternoon full of Advent songs and poems. But the special moments came on December 3rd, when the first class from Kallham Elementary School visited the retirement home to bake Christmas cookies together. Stories from the past were told and the children clearly had fun while sharing their experiences with the older generations. Home manager Magdalena Humer said the event left a lasting impression and the residents are already looking forward to tasting the baked cookies and celebrating Advent together.
Kallham itself, where all these festive activities took place, has an area of 26.73 km² and a population of about 2,498 people, as Wikipedia highlighted. The community in the picturesque Hausruckviertel combines a rural idyll with an active social life, which is only underlined by these festive Advent events. Mayor Gottfried Pauzenberger and the community are helping traditional culture and community flourish.
