Police officer in Eutin: Child pornography trial begins!
Eutin.A police officer from Ostholstein is at the center of a shocking trial: The 56-year-old has to answer before the jury court in Eutin for the possession of 33 images depicting child and youth pornography. This charge could have catastrophic consequences for him - a conviction would not only end his career, but also jeopardize his pension rights.
Prosecutor Helena Haas da Silva provided shocking details when reading out the indictment. The images range from intimate shots of children's sexual organs to disturbing scenes of sexual violence. “He did exactly what he was supposed to prevent,” emphasized Haas da Silva, pointing out the special responsibility of the defendant, who worked as a prevention officer in schools and was supposed to teach media skills there.
Legal disputes
The defendant's defense attorney, Michael P. (name changed), admitted ownership of the images, but questioned the admissibility of the evidence. The house search, during which the incriminating data carriers were seized in August 2022, was part of an internal disciplinary procedure. Nevertheless, presiding judge Anja Farries ruled that the evidence was usable because the defendant had previously been informed of his rights.
Another attempt by the defense attorney to stop the proceedings against a fine failed. The prosecutor pointed out that the change in the law was not intended for police officers who possess such images. The investigation was triggered by an obscene chat from 2020 in which Michael P. flirted with a supposedly 16-year-old and sent pornographic images of himself.
In-depth investigations
After the State Criminal Police Office (LKA) addressed the threat, Michael P. was suspended from duty. Computers and cell phones were seized during the search, with many files being heavily encrypted. However, IT specialists were able to recover 77 files, including 25 images from a cell phone cache. The investigation continues and the defendant remains silent about the allegations.
