Police secure protest against right-wing elevator in Schleusingen

Schleusingen shaken by polarized demonstrations!

On November 16th, 2024, the small town of Schleusingen experienced a heated encounter: While a group of 87 participants from the right-wing scene held a registered procession at the train station, the Evangelical church community simultaneously mobilized 60 peaceful citizens for a silent protest and a subsequent peace prayer. This tense situation required massive security precautions as the Suhl State Police Inspectorate kept a close eye on what was happening. The danger was real and the police were ready!

The right-wing extremists marched at 5:20 p.m. Despite their frequent provocative appearances, the gathering remained surprisingly peaceful and incident-free. The police secured the elevator with a contingent of Thuringian emergency services and ensured that the streets were only slightly blocked. The Evangelical Church Community launched its call for a silent protest at 5:00 p.m., and the population appeared united: their faces conveyed determination and solidarity in a sign of peace against the charged emotions of those opposite.

A day of contrasts

Events unfolded calmly and at 7:50 p.m. the peaceful congregational meeting ended. It was striking evidence of the divide in society that emerges during such invited gatherings. Schleusingen, a place at the intersection of protest and appeals for peace, remains a flashpoint for social tensions and a test for the local community.
