E-scooters without insurance: police take action against drivers!

In Wilhelmshaven, the police are once again causing a stir in connection with e-scooters that are on the road without the necessary insurance cover. This is part of an ongoing inspection that has been taking place since the beginning of March. The officers at the Wilhelmshaven/Friesland police station have discovered that many e-scooters are being driven in public spaces with insurance license plates that are no longer valid. In particular, since March 1st, when the new insurance year began, the old black license plates that were valid until February 29th are no longer legal.

As reported, police officers noticed an e-scooter on Ebertstrasse on Monday afternoon that was driving illegally on the sidewalk and was also occupied by two people. During the following check it turned out that the 30-year-old driver and his 33-year-old companion did not have valid insurance cover for the vehicle. What was particularly noticeable was the presence of a green license plate from the 2022/2023 insurance year, which is no longer permitted for this template.

Legal consequences of the controls

The police then initiated criminal proceedings against the driver of the vehicle. These findings not only raise concerns about road safety, but also highlight the need for regulatory compliance for e-scooter users. It is extremely important that drivers inform themselves about the status of their vehicles and applicable insurance regulations to avoid legal consequences.

The ongoing inspections, which aim to increase control of e-scooters, aim to optimize road safety and prevent legal violations. The use of e-scooters is becoming increasingly popular, but a lack of knowledge about compulsory insurance and regulations often leads to serious problems for users.

In this matter, the police point out that valid insurance is not only a legal requirement, but also protects the driver and other road users. The lack of protection brings with it increased risks that affect both legal and safety aspects.

The decree and the new regulations must be clearly communicated in order to inform drivers about the need for insurance coverage in the future. E-scooter users are therefore advised to regularly check their vehicles to ensure that their insurance license plates are valid. The issue will continue to be monitored closely to ensure road safety.
