Exhibition The person behind it: Respect for our heroes!

The social environment for emergency responders is often characterized by disrespect, but a new traveling exhibition in Hesse aims to shine a spotlight on this issue. On October 7th, the exhibition “The Man Behind It” was opened at the West Hesse police headquarters, attended by numerous representatives from various areas, including politics, emergency services, the US Army and the police. Police Vice President Dr. Stewen spoke in her opening speech about the challenges posed by increasing incivility in communication and underscored the need for tolerance and respect for those who protect society.

A central point of the opening ceremony was the contribution of Ms. Andrea Wommelsdorf, who co-initiated the exhibition. She explained that the exhibition aims to present the personal stories of people in professions that often suffer from disrespectful behavior. “Respect is contagious,” she emphasized, adding that this exhibition aims to offer viewers a new perspective on the lives of emergency responders. The exhibition is not only a platform for the voices of these people, but also a call to the public to think about treating each other with respect.

Public accessibility of the exhibition

The traveling exhibition is open to the public until October 31st. Interested visitors can view the exhibition from Tuesday to Thursday between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., but prior registration is required. This enables visitors to engage with the impressive stories of the emergency services and to experience their challenges first hand. Admission is free, which creates the opportunity to bring even more people closer to the difficult situations and the personal stories of the emergency services.

Visiting hours for the exhibition are Tuesdays to Thursdays from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Registrations can be made at the e-mail address exhibition.ppwh@polizei.hessen.de.

This special project not only brings to the fore the challenges that emergency services face in everyday life, but also calls for respectful interaction in society. A clear sign at a time when communication culture is often becoming harsher.
