Mainz – An alarming step in the fight against the dark shadows of corruption and white-collar crime! Since November 1st, citizens in Rhineland-Palatinate have been able to anonymously provide information about these serious crimes. This new reporting platform is a critical weapon aimed at stopping criminals and regaining trust in our institutions.
White-collar crime is a broad field and includes numerous dark dealings - from fraud to money laundering to insider trading. The eye-catching “Cyber Trading Fraud” (CTF) in particular has turned out to be a treacherous trap for investors who are lured with illusory returns for cryptocurrencies and stocks. The alarming numbers speak for themselves: In Germany, white-collar crime cases rose to 38,925 in 2023, a worrying increase that is also hitting Rhineland-Palatinate hard. 1,767 offenses were recorded here, a jump of over 12 percent. The balance sheet is devastating - the total damage climbed to over 83 million euros!
Fight against corruption – an urgent concern!
But that's not all! Corruption is also on the rise and is causing unrest: 3,841 cases nationwide, an increase of 6.7 percent, which is causing devastating damage, especially in the health sector. The economic loss due to corruption has reached the shocking sum of 57 million euros! The introduction of the anonymous reporting platform is intended to give citizens a voice and actively involve them in combating these crimes. Interior Minister Ebling emphasizes: “We are strengthening transparency and protecting trust in our constitutional state.”

With this measure, the authorities hope to encourage victims to reveal the background to these socially harmful crimes and thus make a decisive contribution to the investigation.
