McDonald's supports Kika/Leiner employee: New opportunities for apprentices!
Wien, Österreich - The Kika/Leiner furniture store chain is in a profound crisis. After the first bankruptcy in June 2023 and the failed renovation attempt in November 2024, numerous branches are now facing the closure. A total of 1,900 employees who will lose their jobs are affected, while only 1,200 jobs are retained. This massive job reduction is necessary by selling the chain to the Supernova group under the new managing director Hermann Wieser, who also announced that 23 out of 40 locations will be closed by the end of July 2023, such as the Meinverzirk reported.
support offers for affected employees
In view of this dramatic situation,McDonald’s Austria reacted quickly and offered support. Ellen Staudenmayer, Managing Director of McDonald’s, said that all Kika/Leiner's apprentices and employees who are affected by the termination can continue their apprenticeship at McDonald’s. With over 200 restaurants in Austria, the company not only offers flexible working hours, but also training programs that could be ideal for the former Kika/Leiner apprentices. Employees can already apply directly on the career side of McDonald’s, such as 5min reported.
The new McDonald’s measures are particularly important because the economic situation is a challenge in the run -up to Christmas. The closings and the breakdown at Kika/Leiner have not only economic, but also social consequences that are stressful for many ex-employees. The possibility of continuing training at McDonald’s could be a valuable opportunity for many to make a career in system catering. According to McDonald’s, the apprentices concerned are faced with the prospect of completing their vocational training near the place of residence - a positive perspective in an unsafe time.
