Drexler under pressure: Styrian ÖVP fights for power in the state parliament!
Passail, Österreich - The Styrian governor Christopher Drexler faces an uncertain future in the new state government. Although he himself vehemently strives to continue to be part of the government, massive resistance to him has become loud from the ranks of the ÖVP, in particular from the base and the business association. According to there are already efforts within the district parties to dismiss him before the constituent session of the state parliament, which is scheduled for Wednesday.

The negotiations for the new state government seem to have already been well advanced, especially since the FPÖ and the ÖVP have agreed on joint projects, such as the introduction of a mandatory preschool year for non-German-speaking children. However, the conflict is primarily about personnel issues within the ÖVP. As Austria 24 , Drexler is put under pressure by the district parties and must fight for his political existence.
Only recently could positive negotiations between Drexler and the FPÖ be recorded. Instead of originally sought four posts for the FPÖ and three for the ÖVP, there could now be an equal distribution of four posts for each party. This agreement is crucial for Drexler in order to be able to remain in the government, while the nomination of Karl-Heinz Kornhäusl and other government members from the ÖVP are still in the room. On Monday, the party board decides how to continue with Drexler's political career before the new state government is officially presented on Tuesday.
