Tyrol starts pilot project for colon cancer prevention: Stay informed now!
In Austria, around 5,000 people are diagnosed with colon cancer every year, one of the most common types of cancer. In order to reduce the incidence of this disease, the Medical Association for Tyrol is implementing a new prevention program that is supported by immediate sensitization of the population. To this end, a pilot project is being launched that aims to increase participation rates in preventive colonoscopies. In recent years, around 370 people in Tyrol have been diagnosed with colorectal cancer every year, with the age at onset often being 71 to 72 years old. An important goal is the early detection of precursors of this type of cancer in order to avoid major operations and chemotherapy. As the medical association reports, colonoscopy is highlighted as the “gold standard” for preventative care and patients are offered the choice between a stool test and a colonoscopy, starting from the age of 45. This not only benefits those affected, but also significantly reduces the burden on the Austrian healthcare system, as the co-speaker for gastrointestinal endoscopy, Katrin Bermoser, emphasizes.
State-of-the-art medical care in the Hall Surgery Center
A further step towards improving healthcare in Tyrol can be seen in the Hall Surgery Center, which opened in December 2020 after three years of construction. This ultra-modern hospital not only offers well-equipped operating rooms and a special day clinic for minor procedures, but also ensures a bright and friendly atmosphere that promotes the well-being of patients. The center is connected to other departments via an impressive glass bridge, while innovative technologies ensure energy efficiency. With a total of 206 beds and state-of-the-art medical facilities, the LKH Hall intends to offer all patients the best possible care with the greatest possible safety.
The need for effective preventive measures and optimized treatment options is becoming increasingly urgent in view of the increasing number of colon cancer cases. The Medical Association emphasizes the importance of the complex medical infrastructure and calls for the rapid development of the new screening program in order to detect cases early and sustainably protect the health of the population. The news from Tirol Kliniken underlines how important it is to provide modern medical standards in order to provide patients with the best possible care and at the same time minimize the financial burden on the healthcare system, as is also clear in the reports from the Medical Association and the Surgery Center in Hall.
