Deadly attack in New Orleans: IS flag in the rental pick-up discovered!
In a shocking New Year's night in New Orleans, the 42-year-old US citizen Shamsud-Din Jabbar committed a devastating terrorist attack in which at least 15 people were killed and dozens were injured. The alleged perpetrator steered his rented pick-up with a flag of the Islamic State (IS) into a crowd on the famous Bourbon Street. After a change of shooting with the police, Jabbar was killed while two officers were injured. The governor of Louisiana, Jeff Landry, explained the emergency in the city and emphasized the need to increase the security measures to serve municipal security, such as Oe24 reported .
Details of the attack
The investigators discovered not only an IS flag in Jabbar’s car, but also weapons and alleged self-made explosives that were placed in the area. In a press conference, President Joe Biden confirmed that Jabbar had published videos hours before the attack, in which he justified his actions with Isis and expressed the desire to kill. The FBI has now initiated a comprehensive examination and determined whether Jabbar may have had connections to other terrorists. Alethea Duncan, special assistant investigator of the FBI, made it clear that it was not assumed that Jabbar had been acting alone, such as Business Interior reported .
The assassin was a former soldier who was on duty from 2007 to 2015 and worked in Afghanistan. In addition, Jabbar had come into conflict several times with the law. The authorities are currently analyzing surveillance videos and have identified a suspicious group, which has now been excluded. Safety measures in the city were increased, and Sugar Bowl, originally planned for New Year, was postponed by 24 hours to ensure the safety of the guests.
