Deadly attack in New Orleans: IS flag discovered in rental pickup!

On a shocking New Year's night in New Orleans, 42-year-old US citizen Shamsud-Din Jabbar carried out a devastating terrorist attack that left at least 15 people dead and dozens injured. The suspected perpetrator drove his rented pickup truck with an Islamic State (IS) flag into a crowd on famous Bourbon Street. After a shootout with police, Jabbar was killed while two officers were injured. Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry declared a state of emergency in the city and emphasized the need to increase security measures to ensure community safety oe24 reported.

Details of the attack

The investigators discovered not only an IS flag in Jabbar's car, but also weapons and suspected homemade explosive devices that had been planted in the area. President Joe Biden confirmed in a news conference that Jabbar had released videos hours before the attack justifying his actions with ISIS and expressing a desire to kill. The FBI has now launched a comprehensive investigation into whether Jabbar may have had connections to other terrorists. Alethea Duncan, assistant special agent in charge of the FBI, made it clear that Jabbar was not believed to have acted alone Business Insider reported.

The attacker was a former soldier who served from 2007 to 2015 and served in Afghanistan, among other places. Jabbar also had several run-ins with the law. The authorities are currently analyzing surveillance videos and have identified a suspect group, which has now been ruled out. Security measures in the city have been increased and the Sugar Bowl, originally scheduled for New Year's Day, has been postponed by 24 hours to ensure the safety of guests.
