Carinthian electricity prices rise: FPÖ warns of new cost explosion!
In Carinthia it is bubbling: The Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) raises the alarm because of the planned wind power expansion measures and warns of dramatic increases in electricity costs. According to Carinthia ORF there could be an increase of up to 725 euros per household on the electricity bill in the new year. FPÖ politician Christoph Staudacher therefore calls for a limitation of the Kilowatt hour price to a maximum of 20 cents. The FPÖ also criticizes the lobbying of the Chamber of Commerce for wind turbines and emphasizes that the number of wind turbines in Carinthia does not lead to cheaper electricity prices.
Resistance to the wind power law
The FPÖ has announced that it can use all legal means to stop the "energy conversion law" introduced by the SPÖ and ÖVP. Party leader Erwin Angerer describes this law as "Natural and Home Council Act" and argues that Carinthia is already climate-neutral, while Member of the National Council, Christian Ragger, indicates the legal ties associated with the approval of wind turbines. According to Kleine Zeitung also planning to support Citizens' Movements and NGOs, which struggle against new wind farms in regions such as Metnitz and Gensau. "There is no reason to sacrifice our beautiful country," says Angerer and Ragger.
The ÖVP defends itself against the accusations of the FPÖ and criticizes their argument as a "appearance full of myths". Committee chairman Herbert Gaggl rejects the claims of the freedom and emphasizes that the energy strategy is still being developed and does not target wind power alone. In addition, permits to use wind power did not have the alleged impact on neighbors. He calls for a constructive approach to the energy transition instead of fake news and exaggerations, as can be found in the statements of the FPÖ.
