Future power plant Frimmersdorf: Grevenbroich starts new project!
On January 9, 2025, the city of Grevenbroich, the Rhine district of Neuss and NRW.URBAN GmbH signed the partnership agreement for the “Zukunfts.Kraftwerk Frimmersdorf Strategie GmbH”. This new company will hold 45% of the shares from the city of Grevenbroich and the Rhein-Kreis Neuss as well as 10% from NRW.URBAN. The aim is to develop the former Frimmersdorf power plant site into an innovative commercial and transformation location Lokalklick.eu reported.
The guiding principle of the development is “past meets future”. Planned uses include digital innovation, research, development and cultural and commercial activities. Mayor Klaus Krützen emphasizes the creation of new perspectives for value creation, training and jobs. District Administrator Hans-Jürgen Petrauschke and district director Dirk Brügge emphasize the importance of the project for the digital economy and the region.
Planned measures and conversion
Valerie Milicevic (City of Grevenbroich) and Sven Schumacher (Rhein-Kreis Neuss) are to take over the management. The plan is to repurpose the listed central power plant building, including a data center for IT.NRW. Other facilities that will be integrated into the concept include an educational campus and modern offices for start-ups. In addition, a monument trail is being created by the Rhineland Regional Association.
The location offers earthquake safety and good infrastructural connections, making it an attractive location for companies. The signing of the contracts marks the start of the implementation of concrete measures in the coming months, such as nrw-urban.de added. Particular emphasis is placed on close coordination with local actors and sustainable planning.
