Vance Celebrates Repeal of DEI Initiatives: A Victory for All Americans!

US Vice President JD Vance has hailed President Donald Trump's administration's scrapping of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives as a major success. In his recent comments, Vance emphasized that Republican policies aim to treat everyone equally and criticized DEI initiatives promoted by the previous Joe Biden administration as discriminatory. “In America you no longer have to apologize for the color of your skin,” Vance said. At the beginning of his term, Trump had cut DEI programs across the board by introducing measures to eliminate discriminatory programs that arose primarily from the civil rights movement of the 1960s.

The elimination of DEI programs is perceived by many as a step back towards a less inclusive society. Trump accused the programs of discriminating against white men. Conservative critics like Chris Rufo of the Manhattan Institute support this view, arguing that diversity programs have favored minorities. But a growing portion of the population, about 52% of respondents, continues to believe such programs are mostly positive, according to a Pew Research Center survey.

The death of Charlie Kirk and its background

In his remarks, Vance also remembered Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, who was shot dead at an event at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025. Kirk, considered an influential supporter of Trump and the MAGA movement, was shot in the neck during his keynote speech on the American Comeback Tour. The perpetrator, who fired from around 200 yards away, has not yet been caught and the FBI is supporting the ongoing investigation. Kirk was known for his controversial and often heavily criticized statements about immigration, particularly towards Haitian immigrants.

His provocative statements, including the claim that “Haiti is legitimately riddled with demonic voodoo” and warning that Haitian immigrants could take over if Trump loses, continue to stir controversy. Vance called Kirk's death an irreplaceable loss and urged Republican youth to get involved ahead of the November midterm elections for the U.S. Congress.

Political significance and outlook

JD Vance, who has not yet taken any concrete steps towards running for president in 2028, is seen as a possible successor to Trump. Trump himself cannot run again due to the two-term limit. The US political landscape is being shaped by rapid changes in diversity policy. The closure of diversity and inclusion departments in federal agencies within 60 days is at the center of both the current political debate and the public's focus.

In this tense atmosphere, many are working to preserve equality policies while addressing the dangers of a possible rise in racism and discrimination without safeguards. Timothy Welbeck of Temple University warns explicitly about the consequences of cutting DEI programs as companies like McDonald's, Meta, Disney and Walmart have scaled back their diversity efforts.

Overall, the political discussion surrounding DEI initiatives shows the tension between different ideologies in the United States. Vance and his supporters see the current change as a necessary step to make America performance-oriented again, while critics warn about the consequences for society.
