Break-in at figure skating star: irreplaceable Olympic medal stolen!

Christine Stüber-Errath, the former GDR figure skater and bronze medalist at the 1976 Olympic Games in Innsbruck, was the victim of a burglary on New Year's Eve. While she was staying with her husband on the Baltic Sea, unknown perpetrators broke into their home in Wildau. The break-in was discovered on New Year's Day by a neighbor who immediately reported it.

During the break-in, the burglars left climbing marks on the house facade, even though the house is equipped with blinds and safety glass. The perpetrators entered the bedroom through a small, double-glazed window. It remains unclear how many people were involved in the break-in, but the thorough searches of all cupboards and shelves indicate experienced criminals. Two doors and a window were damaged with a crowbar. Stüber-Errath's 1976 Olympic medal and wedding jewelry were stolen, among other things, which particularly hurts her because the medal is worthless to the burglars, but is irreplaceable for her and has many memories associated with it.

Personal impact and safety concerns

Stüber-Errath, who celebrated her 68th birthday on December 29th in Stralsund and spent the New Year on Rügen, felt mentally exhausted and expressed her fear of the callousness of the perpetrators. She plans to increase her security measures, including installing an alarm system and cameras. She also advises other homeowners to take their security seriously and expresses concern about the overall security situation. In an appeal she calls for more police presence and consistent prosecution.

The loss of the medal, which she only won due to a serious foot injury and against all odds, affected her greatly. After personally witnessing the devastation in her home on New Year's morning, she appealed to the burglars to return the medal. Stüber-Errath, who is also active as a TV presenter and on show evenings after her sporting career, remains committed and feels it is important to talk about these topics in society.
