As Margarete Gumprecht, chairwoman of the trade division at the Vienna Chamber of Commerce, explains, carnival brings joy to all age groups. The family carnival celebration on March 2nd in Vienna City Hall is particularly celebrated as a highlight.

There is a lot of activity in the specialist shops and costume rental shops because the demand for carnival items and costumes is unbroken. “The carnival business is particularly profitable for many retailers,” emphasizes Gumprecht, while pointing to the large sales that not only boost retail, but also the catering and event industries. The Viennese spend an average of between 50 and 70 euros on their costumes; creativity knows no limits. From circus themes to nostalgic retro costumes to timeless classics - the suggestions for disguises are diverse. The iconic characters Barbie and Ken are particularly popular with revelers, as ORF Vienna reports.
