A significant step in Austria's academic landscape: IT:U (Interdisciplinary Transformation University Austria) has announced the call for new professors in five key areas. With a total of ten new professorships in the disciplines of Industrial Innovation, Data Science, Art & Technology, Economics and Cyber Security, the university is responding to the overwhelming rush of 671 applications from 70 countries worldwide. This even exceeds the success of the founding professorships from the previous year by an impressive 67.5 percent, as Stefanie Lindstaedt, founding president of IT:U, explains. This increase in the number of applicants is a clear sign of the interest in interdisciplinary research in the context of digital transformation ots.at.
The new professors will work in research groups that address key questions of the future, including digital transformation, social implications of data power and cyber security. Lindstaedt emphasizes that the interdisciplinary approach has also increased the proportion of women among applicants - to 30 percent, which is double the number in the first advertisement. “The future of technology needs women not only to strengthen diversity in science, but also to integrate gender-relevant perspectives into technical solutions,” she emphasizes, as in a report by tips.at is supplemented.
Appointments committees and future plans
Five appointment committees are now busy examining the applications received and inviting suitable candidates to selection interviews in May and June. The new professorships are expected to be filled in October 2025, with the first master's program entitled “Interdisciplinary Computing” starting at the same time. This represents significant progress for IT:U, which continues to work towards its goal of acting as an innovative center for interdisciplinary research and teaching and setting the course for a new generation of scientists.
