KSV-Kjö celebrates historical election victory at the CEU with 56.8%!

Central European University, Wien, Österreich - On May 16, 2025, the communist list KSV-Kjö achieved a historical decision in the elections at Central European University (CEU): With 56.8% of the votes, the parliamentary group secured the absolute majority. This represents a striking increase, since the number of votes is almost three times as high as in the previous elections. Sebastian Redl, the federal chairman of the KSV-Kjö, emphasized that the students are fed up with the clientele policy of the Austrian University (ÖH) and want to stand up for a comprehensive representation of the interests of all students. Success is also reflected in the election as a federal representation, where the KSV-KJÖ reached 41.8%.

The future concerns of the KSV kjö are complex. According to Redl, the focus is on better employment relationships for doctoral students, the expansion of scholarships for master students and the improvement of the study conditions in the bachelor sector. Bela Hümmelgen, another member of the parliamentary group, said that communist politics is currently experiencing an upswing because it is fighting for radicals and concrete improvements. Topics such as affordable living, tuition fees and unrealistic minimum studies are also viewed critically by the KSV-Kjö.

claims and ideology

Noah Zvonek, the top candidate of the KSV-Kjö and historical student at the University of Vienna, explains that the parliamentary group vehemently outlined against the financing of universities by armaments companies and a civil clause for research. The KSV-Kjö rejects the introduction of tuition fees because they are considered socially selective and unfair. It is committed to stronger state financing of the universities as well as for the expansion of scholarships and aid.

In addition, the KSV-KJÖ demands that more childcare are provided for students with children. The faction focuses on stopping the depoliticization of the students and authorizing them to stand up for their own concerns. Cooperation with so -called "socially reactionary" forces such as the RFS is expressly rejected.

historical context of the student movement

In the context of the current successes of the KSV kjö, it is important to remember the roots of student movements. In the 1960s, the German universities were under the influence of significant social changes. Political scandals and the demands for the end of the Vietnam War and social reforms shaped the time at that time. Student representatives called for contemporary learning content and social opportunities, while the political situation in the country, such as the split off of the Socialist German Student Association (SDS), played an important role in the resulting resistance.

The student movement of the 1960s, with its use for social justice and anti-militarist thoughts, also resonates in the current activities of the KSV kjö. The demands for peace and against armaments research at universities pronounced by the KSV kjö are still a sign of the continuing endeavors to eliminate social grievances.

Overall, it can be seen that the KSV kjö has not only achieved a strong mandate on the CEU with its demands and successes, but also stands for a political tradition that is deeply rooted in the social and political struggles of the past decades.
