Unique miniature country in Göppingen: Discover the magical world of model railways!

A fascinating “miniature country” is taking shape in the Märklineum in Göppingen, under the direction of 59-year-old Wolfrad Bächle. With an area of 100 square meters, the diverse landscape, history and culture of Baden-Württemberg is presented here on a scale of 1:87 Rem newspaper reported. The project emerged from a strong sense of home and aims to radiate inviting “homeliness”. Work on the model railway system began three years ago and is always in flux - final completion does not seem to be in sight as new ideas are constantly being implemented. “Superlatives are not our mission,” emphasizes Bächle, “we rely on the feeling of familiarity and clarity.”

The attractions of the Märklineum are as diverse as they are impressive. 30 trains travel through the lovingly designed landscape, which is connected to each other on almost 500 meters of tracks. Using state-of-the-art technology to create times of day and moods, such as impressive light shows and landscape effects, gives visitors the feeling of being in another world. If you zoom in on the steam locomotive loaded on the train, which sits enthroned as an iconic landmark in the factory yard, the company's long tradition becomes clear.

Archival treasures

In addition to the Märklineum, the Göppingen City Archives ensures the preservation of city historical documents that are important for research and personal areas of interest, reports the Göppingen city administration. Not only official documents are stored here, but also private estates, photos and artistic city views. The archive fulfills the important task of securing these treasures of the city's history and making them accessible to the public. Various projects take historical documents as well as the interests of citizens and researchers into account.
