Austrian meat for sausage cuts: A regional check!
In the shelves of the Austrian supermarkets, there is a gratifying development in sausage cuts. A regional check of the association in the country showed that meat from Austria is used in 63% of the 220 varieties examined. This result was rated as positive by the chairman Robert Pichler and shows that consumers are increasingly emphasizing Austrian quality products, although 27% of the products have an unclear origin. The comparison between food retail (Leh) and discounters, in which discounters offer a share of 69% domestic meat, is particularly interesting, while it is 57% at Leh. href = "https://www.ots.at/presseaus-sung/ots_20241210_ots0063/regionalitaets-check-stuch-oesterreichisches-fleisch-in-packen-Wurstauftschte"> ots.at .
transparency required
Despite the gratifying results, there are concerns about the small number of products with AMA seal of approval, which are only 33%. "The products with AMA seal of approval stand for controlled quality, but the pressure of the trade is clearly evident here," said Markus Lukas of sustainable animal husbandry Austria (NTÖ). In addition, the association calls for a strict implementation of the transparency goals by the EU Commission to create a uniform origin identification system for meat products, as intended in the farm-to-fork strategy, such as Spiegel.de
In times of growing ecological challenges, the AMA seal of approval remains a trustworthy partner for consumers. In order to keep domestic production competitive in the future, Pichler demands that trade have to be more committed to the seal of approval and support its development.
