28 new police students in Carinthia: A strong sign for the future!

On June 24, 2025, the official inauguration of 28 new police students took place in the education center of the security academy in Krumpendorf am Wörthersee. The trainees include 11 women and 17 men who are now beginning their two-year training period. The state police director Michaela Kohlweiß took the oath personally with a handshake and thus gave the starting signal for the training at the Carinthia state police headquarters.

Police training in Austria is an essential part of the country's security architecture. In total, the police train around 23,000 employees at over 1,000 police stations, spread across 12 police schools across the country. The police school in Krumpendorf was founded in 2003 and plays a crucial role in recruiting new forces. Thanks to the good connection to the state capital Klagenfurt, it is extremely easy to reach and offers modern training conditions.

Development of police training

The basic training at the police school in Krumpendorf lasts 24 months and is divided into several sections: 12 months of basic training, 3 months of professional internship, 5 months of in-depth training and finally 4 months of professional internship. The training plan is determined by the security academy and covers a variety of skills that are essential for the police service. These include, among others:

  • Wahrnehmungs- und Reflexionskompetenzen
  • Situationsadäquate Handlungskompetenzen
  • Soziale und kommunikative Kompetenzen

The police school itself is equipped with 4 classrooms, a computer room, two seminar rooms and a canteen, which means it offers optimal learning conditions. In addition, the students can rely on a dedicated teaching team of 10 experienced police experts who contribute their knowledge and experience.

Application process and requirements

In order to qualify for police training, those interested must meet a number of requirements. These include a minimum age of 18, Austrian citizenship and possession of the “Travel Swimmer” swimming badge. Freedom from a criminal record and completed military service are also mandatory. The aptitude tests are comprehensive and last a total of two days. They include psychological tests, sporting requirements and a medical certificate.

Anyone who achieves the minimum score of 197.22 points per exam can look forward to a fulfilling training course. Preparation for the entrance exams is recommended in order to gain the necessary knowledge and fitness for the police profession.
