Film festival highlight: Meeresrausch” enchants Schlager fans!
Schmirl is nominated for her impressive performance in the medium-length film “Meeresrausch (or to be like a star)”, which will be presented at the renowned Max Ophüls Prize Festival. The film by Helmut Karner is about a dedicated fan of the pop star Hansy Vordermeer. Along with other talents such as Giulio Brizzi and Vincent Furrer, Schmirl is the only actress nominated in the supporting role category, although her film is not in the main competition. The festival, which begins on January 20th, is considered the most important of its kind in the German-speaking region, with awards ceremonies on January 25th. A total of 14 Austrian productions and debut films will be shown, including the works of Julia Windischbauer and Bernhard Wenger.
The vision behind “Meeresrausch”
The production “Meeresrausch” is run by the YOUNG WIENER ENSEMBLE, which is committed to promoting independent Austrian film and the diversity of artists. As the organization reports, the 40-minute film is currently in post-production and is expected to be completed by the end of September 2024. In order to enable submission to national and international festivals, producers need financial support. This comedy with surreal elements deals with the transformation of a pop fan who, in light of a divine inspiration, questions his life and his alcohol consumption. Thanks to the support of institutions such as the Vienna Film Fund and the Lower Austria Cultural Fund, the project was realized in various Austrian federal states, including Vienna, Lower Austria and Carinthia.
The combination of talented actors and an innovative storyline makes “Meeresrausch” stand out, which has the potential to make a big splash at upcoming festivals, like from Small newspaper and GoFundMe reported.
