This includes over 600 cinema productions, many of which have won international awards at renowned film festivals. 550 TV productions, including documentaries and series, were also co-financed from these funds. Vienna's mayor Michael Ludwig emphasized that the city is recognized as an important film and media location and emphasized the importance of supporting the city's cultural heritage.
Funding guidelines and innovations
The Vienna Film Fund has also updated its funding guidelines to clarify how applications can be submitted. These regulations are divided into general and specific guidelines. The general prerequisites must be read before submitting the application. The current changes include a maximum limit of 50,000 euros for project development of feature films and 330,000 euros for series formats. From 2024, a child protection concept for filming with children and young people will be a prerequisite for funding. In addition, the reporting requirement regarding revenue reports has been adjusted to increase the transparency of funding decisions.
Christine Dollhofer, managing director of the film fund, explained the importance of this funding: “Austrian film is part of our cultural DNA and historical heritage for future generations.” The continuous support of the film fund makes a significant contribution to the development and visibility of Austrian film, including on an international level.
