25 years of film funds Vienna: a triumph for the creativity of the city!

The Filmfonds Vienna has celebrated a very special anniversary. Period supported 3,300 projects with a total of over 266 million euros. This comprises over 600 cinema productions, many of them awarded internationally in renowned film festivals. 550 TV productions, including documentation and series, were also co-financed from these means. Vienna Mayor Michael Ludwig emphasized that the city is recognized as a significant film and media location and emphasized the importance of support for the city's cultural heritage.

The Filmfonds Vienna has also updated its funding guidelines to clarify how applications can be made. These regulations are divided into general and specific guidelines. The general preconditions must be read before the application. Current changes include a maximum limit of 50,000 euros for project developments of movies and 330,000 euros for series formats. From 2024, a child protection concept for filming with children and adolescents is a prerequisite for grants. In addition, the obligation to report was adapted to revenue reports in order to increase the transparency of the funding decisions.

Christine Dollhofer, managing director of the film fund, explained the importance of these funding: "The Austrian film is part of our cultural DNA and historical heritage for future generations." The continuous support of the film fund contributes significantly to the development and visibility of Austrian film at an international level. Vienna is still promoted as a place of creative possibilities for filmmakers.
